Seattle, Washington based Balance Associates has a great quote on their website that says:
“Good design does not require the triumph of form over function,
but balance between the two…”
I think they did a great job of achieving that with their design for the Garden House.
This boldly modern house designed by Project A01 Architects is up on a hillside overlooking the town of Klosterneuburg, which is just outside of Vienna. The secluded location makes me wonder if it was too modern for the townspeople, so they chased it up the hill, where it now waits, silently plotting its revenge…
…more likely, it’s just where the owners wanted to build, but I like my story better.
So you probably think that ski season is over, right? Well, you’d be wrong, it’s actually just getting started…..down in Australia! That’s right, the southern hemisphere is heading into winter, so it’s time to make like a kangaroo and hop down to the land down under and enjoy some of the white stuff. And, since time in Australia is about one day ahead of everywhere else, they already knew you were coming, so they prepared for your arrival by building the Huski Apartments & Day Spa at the Falls Creek ski resort.
The design of this apartment hotel is the work of Elenberg Fraser, and besides the hotel rooms, the building also includes the Endota Day Spa, and a produce store on the ground floor in case you forgot to bring the Vegemite.
For those of you who love the ultra clean and clinical variety of modern interiors, this penthouse apartment in London should excite you. The two floor apartment sits on top of the Lantern building designed by KMK Architects in the borough of Southwark.
The apartment also happens to be for sale, and is actually being represented by The Modern House Estate Agents who are an interesting niche real estate agency in the UK who only represent modern architectural properties.

Every day I see great architecture from beautiful places all over the world, and it causes me to spend the rest of the day dreaming about moving to that place, hiring some great architects, and building an amazing house. Today, that place would be the archipelago of islands near Stockholm, Sweden, and Widjedal, Racki, Bergerhoff would be the architects
I would hire to build a great modern house like this one they designed as a summer house for a lucky young family.

Edinburgh, Scotland based Zebrano Design has some impressive works of contemporary architecture and interior design in their portfolio. The company is now also getting into property developments of their own, so hopefully we’ll be seeing much more of their work in the future.
Sebastien Wierinick from France has created some very interesting seating that crosses the border into the sculpture world.
This light filled holiday home designed by Christensen & Co is hidden in a wooded area on the north end of the island of Zealand in Denmark.
