Retail Interior Inspiration From Alfredo Häberli

Born in Argentina, and now based in Zürich, designer Alfredo Häberli created the interior for this Camper shoe store in Paris.  Even though the space is small, he still managed to inject some delightful touches of design.  We especially enjoy the shelving upon which the shoes are presented, be sure to notice the various rounded shapes that add some whimsical flair to the shopping experience.

Handmade Furniture from South Africa

High Thorn was founded by Georgie Crowe to create products that are inspired by traditional African designs, but with a more contemporary feel, while using natural resources like leather and twigs give the designs an earthy feeling.

At a time when most items for the home are mass produced, all the furniture, lighting and home decor items produced by High Thorn are all made by hand from a dedicated group of men and women in Pietermaritzburg, Kwazulu Natal in South Africa.

High Thorn gives each person in the group the responsibilty for the order allocated to them and the company is structured so each person works for themselves. This is especially important for the women that do the beadwork as they are disadvantaged women who are usually the sole providers for their families and this is their way of earning a living. Here are some of the group at work…

People Behind the Products

Thanks to Ed from Diseño Earle Architects for letting us know about a new house they’ve designed which is soon to be under construction.  Located in Spain’s Costa del Sol region, the house takes advantage of the area’s abundant sunshine with large windows to provide natural light, as well as a wing-like roof that holds solar panels at the correct angle to maximize the energy they generate while also hiding them from view.

See more photos and read more about the house on the Diseño Earle website ? here.

The Level Barstool From Johanson Design

For a few years now, it’s been impossible to pickup an interior design magazine without seeing at least one (if not many) interiors featuring the LEM Piston Stool.  It’s a great stool, and a design which seems to have already acheived iconic status.  We love the LEM Piston Stool, but it’s getting a bit trite, because they’re everywhere.  They’re as common as Barcelona chairs, Corbusier lounges, and Noguchi tables, which are all great too, but we don’t really feel like paying $6 for magazines where we see the same thing all the time.  So how about a little change?  Johanson Design has a new barstool called Level that they showed off at this year’s Salone del Mobile furniture fair in Milan.  We’re looking forward to seeing it in some interior photo shoots.
