Building down – A basement boom hits San Diego
The LA Times has an article + photo slideshow about how so many new homes on the California coast, especially in San Diego, are building basements because height restrictions don’t allow them to build up, so people are building down instead.

This has been going on in the Highland Park section of Dallas for a couple of years. A 50′x150′ tear down lot can easily run $1 million+ so people have been building underground parking garages with a media room to spare. The garages have a giant turn table in them to when you want to back out, the table with spin the car 180 degrees.
