The exteriors are a little ho-hum but the interiors are absolutely fabulous.

why do swedish homes look so sterile that you could eat off the floors? Are the Swedes afraid of earth tones?
Ola on 04 Oct 2008 at 8:33 am #
woundedduck: No. We just think that earth tones are ugly.

It’s not the colors, it’s the lines. The proportion is stark and commercial looking. Architects seem to favor this stuff but you can’t sell it to most folks. My house is 120 year old Queen Anne style and no one has ever given me a negative comment on it’s looks. A hit is a hit. This one would not even enter the charts around here. Reinventing the wheel is such a waste of time.

Queen Anne style homes are not a hit, that’s why they don’t get built anymore. They’re full of dark enclosed spaces that have no airflow, they don’t reflect how people live today.
By the way, these prefab homes are meant to be simple, because they’re meant to be replicated many times. They lack unique and interesting details on purpose. They’re cookie cutter design is on purpose. You can’t compare these to a one-off site specific architect designed home.
