New Bamboo: Contemporary Japanese Masters

New York’s Japan Society will be holding an exhibition of sculptural bamboo art that will run between October 4th and January 11th.

From the Japan Society:

Over the past few years, Japanese bamboo artists have reached beyond the established boundaries of their craft. New Bamboo is the world’s first exhibition devoted exclusively to Japanese bamboo as a sculptural medium, featuring 23 innovators, old and young, who explore to the full the tension between traditional skill and new expressive opportunities. Ranging from ethereal, computer-designed filigrees, through dramatic wall pieces to angry-looking, dirt-encrusted tangles and anthropomorphic, sexually charged sculptures, the more than 90 works on display demonstrate awesome technique, meticulous attention to detail and extraordinary creativity.

Concrete Clocks by Johan Forsberg

Thanks to Johan Forsberg for letting us know about the hand crafted concrete clocks he produces from his studio in Gothenburg, Sweden.

From Forsberg:

The engine behind Forsberg Form is based on a desire to discover new angles of approach in testing and expanding the boundaries of possibilities one can accomplish with a material. With this in mind we want to create something that is not expected to be produced from a material such as concrete.

Every product produced has its very own unique recipe which includes specially sourced sea sand from the öresund seabed, the stretch of water which separates Sweden and Denmark, as part of the ingredients.
