The Olson Residence by Olson Architects
Earlier this year, architect Sheri Olson and her family moved into this house she designed for them. The home is located in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood, and is actually 30% smaller than what the local zoning permitted, which was part of a strategy to create a compact, efficient and economical house. Rooms throughout the home are oriented to capture sunlight, which further contributes to the home’s energy efficiency.

I would have thought an architect would design him/herself a house a bit more… I don’t know, revolutionary? Evolutionary? Interesting? This one just seems to be recyled – from the glass/concrete cube exterior to the ubiquitous cable rails on the stairway. I have seen it all before.

Love the work here. The interior color pallette is nice.
@Mycroft – anything can be done with $$$$$$$$$. Those crazy designs you see in magazines are very difficult and costly to build. I can appreciate their approach on this. Simple, elegant, understated.

I like it. The rooms are well proportioned, it’s open, bright and inviting. I especially like the fact that it’s a lot smaller than allowed. Do we witness a new modesty after all?

No doubt this is probably one of the best looking houses in the neighborhood now. It’s a beauty.
