Maison de la Lumiere by Duilio Damilano
This house in Bologna, Italy was designed by Duilio Damilano.
The house was born from two fundamental requirements: to avoid the stereotypes of the residential buildings in the region, and to realize a technologically advanced house.
In order to answer the first demand, the modern house is separated from the surrounding context by walls of green bushes to allow for something new to emerge. The dialogue throughout the house is continuous, the swimming pool leads in to the house, the kitchen opens on to the living room, which is itself overlooked by the upper floor, generating a continuity of visual spaces. The living room is like a glass cube, which opens on to the swimming pool, while animated water cascades from above. The lightness of the construction is contrasted by the materials like a stone wall and wooden footbridge that invite you inside, while blades of steel and wood come off the house, creating a private external area. From a technological point of view, the house is completely automated thanks to a system that allows the owners to manage every function of the house, even from a remote location.

The chandelier over the table does not fit the rest of the decor. I’d like an explanation…

I agree, why not have a modern chandelier instead?

I think the old chandeliers are making a comeback. In this situation, I would have loved to see it painted flat black or white. Perhaps even red…
It’s a beautiful house!

but the old chandelier is ironic!

I can’t believe noone else has mentioned the AMAZING bathroom! That has got to be the sexiest jacuzzi I have ever seen! Then there’s the rock wall, the seductive lighting and the windows giving a nice view over everything!

really nice work, nice spaces, nice furniture, nice design items.
from the exterior is a bit “normal” or even “boaring” look.. but the interior spaces result are great.

definetly agree of the chandeliers, way out of place.. could we see the rest of the house, bedrooms, laudry, tv room, storage and esp kitchen and dining? thanks

Beautiful house. As is often the case though, they ran over budget and had no money left for an interesting contemporary landscape.

I think that this house is a really nice house. I want to live it.

I agree with nataJane… I think the old chandelier is used as an accent in contrast to the modern design of the house. Good Job!

Chandelier adds irony and certain balance to the house, keeping it classic and gold accentuates this balance.
after all, theres nothing like a classical gold chandelier is there?
