Now those are some killer views. Anyone out there want to gift me about 4 mil?
Andrew Menil on 23 Jan 2009 at 11:18 am #
Beautiful house and stunning views, but I’m too much of an urban dweller to trade my condo in downtown LA for Malibu.
john on 23 Jan 2009 at 1:42 pm #
OMG, those views!!
Lance on 23 Jan 2009 at 3:39 pm #
The house itself is pretty nice as well.
I’d like to see a tad more color inside, but it looks like it’s being staged minimally to appeal to “most people”. But it’s a stunning view that will sell the place and it has it in spades.

Groan. Again with the naked concrete – yeah sidewalks are so pleasing to the eye, why not make your exterior walls look that way?
Views are nice.
zachary on 23 Jan 2009 at 8:24 pm #
Mycroft:
Too bad that it isn’t exposed concrete but stucco with a hard trowel.
Yeah concrete is commonplace to those who don’t know what to look for and understand the difficulty in working with concrete beyond simple ‘flatwork’.
I hope someday you have a chance to see what concrete can become in the hands of a skilled craftsmen and creative architects.

The views are definitely should be extraordinary from there. Going upstairs must be a little bit frightening process =)
skittlecurl on 24 Jan 2009 at 12:52 am #
wonderful view and a lovely house, but i would be afraid of landslides or earthquakes.
Needlez on 24 Jan 2009 at 3:18 am #
i love the random tidbits of bright red in there
beutiffly plain house, its very artistic. <, 3

While I don’t usually like the starkness of concrete and glass, this this case the building simply gets out of the way and it’s all about light and living high above civilization, as though floating over Malibu.
Rosie on 24 Jan 2009 at 7:22 pm #
Bloody ugly on the outside but gorgeous on the inside. It would be amazing to have those views to look at everyday!
David in Boston on 25 Jan 2009 at 6:19 am #
Beautiful inside and out…….. except for the faux 50′s dining set and the excessive amount of blue in the living room.
Chris in RVA, you won’t need $4 mil, by the time this one sells (or gets forecloses) it will be down to $2.5 mil. Almost middle class!

So unassuming from the entrance…

I love coastline view and the openness of the design…

@Zachery
It certainly “looks” like concrete, and that, in a nutshell, is the problem. Pretty up concrete and I’m fine with. But grey-naked concrete (of the “look” of naked concrete) is hideous – it’s cold, sterile, hard, and only sutible for factories, not living spaces. It was a fun experiment, but it is seriously time to move on. There is a reason people finsih their basements…
Dreadman on 26 Jan 2009 at 4:42 pm #
Interesting, but very cold. I would like it better with some color and a touch of the rustic.
thekeybunch on 27 Jan 2009 at 2:05 am #
I would rather have a home that blends with nature having such breathtaking views…and prefer this so called modern building in the urban limits.
itchybon on 27 Jan 2009 at 5:58 am #
That house would be great if it were any where but in California. on the coast in Florida or on one of the great lakes in Michigan but not California
Dave on 27 Jan 2009 at 6:02 am #
Why not California?

my dream house…… stunning …. peaceful…
Simon on 01 Feb 2009 at 12:26 pm #
I really like everything, except the chairs in the kitchen. It reminds me of like a retro style, from like the 60s or something, trying to be futuristic. But the house is amazing! And everything else is absolutely awesome!
Skepticsteve on 02 Feb 2009 at 1:45 pm #
Looks rather elaborate for a “minimalist” home. It would be hard to not have a good result on a building site like that.
leo on 02 Feb 2009 at 4:30 pm #
Im thinking about building ‘something similar’ on a site with similar characteristics (50ft from high ocean cliff, high winds during winter, barren – no trees), and was wondering how wind forces, including storms, have affected this design, and was it a consideration at all.. I think you might get a lot of rattleing on square angled glass.. Thanks.

This place is fantastic! Because of so much
concrete, I would decorate each room differently with warm, passionate colors; velvet red, deep purples & plum, sunset golds, etc. And One special room in satin white and ecru! Lime green
somewhere too. Added with blue sky views and lush canyon colors…lovely!
josh on 03 Feb 2009 at 12:22 pm #
i don’t get it. where do you put the books?
Rey on 03 Feb 2009 at 3:31 pm #
I agree with the comments above, the views are great, but the architecture is nothing special. Pretty typical cookie cutter stucco and glass. Seen it and seen it.
Brent on 03 Feb 2009 at 4:52 pm #
This is more impressive architecture than 99% of the houses in America. It is not typical.
Have you looked at what the average house in the US is like? It’s almost all fake historical garbage. Most houses aren’t even designed by architects.
This isn’t the most amazing architecture I’ve ever seen, but it’s much better than the average, so I appreciate it for that reason alone. If the only architecture you’re capable of enjoying is some Frank Gehry/Zaha Hadid craziness, then you’re going to be waiting a long time, because there’s very little of it being done.

Lovely view, but feels a little cold. This house is above it all. I prefer to be a part of it all.

What a beautiful house in a beautiful setting. I can think of many spots here on the Nova Scotia coasting that would compliment this great house.
Laclhlan on 09 Feb 2009 at 5:11 pm #
Fantastic, I live in Australia and for a country with such a a small population we have a scarcity of housing crisis I can only dream of having a house like this in such a stunning location.
Andrew on 11 Feb 2009 at 9:52 am #
I think the house is awesome (especially the livingroom).
Mina Tweak on 13 Mar 2009 at 4:23 pm #
Based on Frank Lloyd Wright’s Usonian house no doubt.
