Minimalist Loft Living in SoHo, New York
The New York Times has an article + photo slideshow about a couple who live in a minimalist loft in New York’s SoHo neighborhood. The couple bought the 7,200 square foot loft for $6.9 million in 2006, and have spent another $2.8 million renovating it.

Lofts have never really done anything for me but this one’s quite nice. I don’t like the chairs and table in the first photo however. It looks like it’s suited more to a waiting room. Sweeping and mopping the floor would take a while!

I really don’t think a 7,200 space can be called minimalist. It may be minimally furnished but it’s not minimalist.

The term “minimalist” refers to the furnishings and decor, not the size of the place.

beautiful, but no it seems minimal, not the amount of furniture that makes minimalist.

Its the irrational proportion of space to its elements that makes a design minimalist.
But hey, that’s one costly minimalist living!

the rich colour that make it not minimalists (at all ) but the space is not very crouded and cramped with furniture as lots of free space that should be used . usually we tend to see minimalist architecture play in small cramped space and plays with white (lighter )colour .But in this case ,the space is wider and the colour is richer…

You know I like this place – quite a bit actually – but $2.8 million for that renovation – please.

Interesting how “minimalist” means spending 10 million dollars… I usually like lofts, but this one has an “unfinished mountain cabin” feel to it. No thanks.

Wow amazing! Luv it! BTW wouldn’t take a long time to sweep and mop that, just program your Roomba and Scooba! Modern technology!
