Living Art by The Urban Landscape Group

The Budapest, Hungary based Urban Landscape Group was awarded first prize for their outdoor art creation located in the campus garden of the University of West Hungary in Sopron. The Art Jury described the team’s project as an artwork novelty closing a yet unfilled gap in contemporary art.

‘Living Art’ is installation. ‘Living Art’ is street furniture. ‘Living Art’ is half a statue, half an ever changing living garden.

The statue-plants, representing the initials of the University, will turn into a living spectacle by changing colors with the seasons day after day. Elements of the furniture set – which is made of exposed concrete ‘ribbons’ – will cast shadow from the shady statue-plants as many vivid negatives. The special outdoor set will serve as a place to hang around and relax for those who long for a place to read, study or chat.

Air Chair by Samuel Accoceberry

Paris based designer Samuel Accoceberry has created the Air Chair.

The technique for this piece relies on the close interlocking of seven curved wooden laths aseembled in decreasing height. The splay of the laths constitutes the back, their joining low down forms the rear base. Material is honed to the strict essential, but the rhythm of the laths creates a visual effect. Stacked Air Chairs save space and provide graphic and colourful animation. Wood, the recyclable material par excellence, is joined using biological glue.

Freddy Chandra at the Brian Gross Fine Art Gallery

The Brian Gross Fine Art Gallery in San Francisco, will be featuring works by the Indonesian-born visual artist Freddy Chandra in a solo exhibition in September, 2009.

His work consists of site-specific installations and multi-panel wall compositions.    Each installation is an immersive environment constructed as a place that encourages sensory understanding of physical space and temporal duration.  His compositions suggest a contingency in the rhythmic act of marking space and shifts that occur in our experience of time.

Verwoben (Interwoven) Shelves by Marco dos Santos Pina

Designer Marco dos Santos Pina has sent us his Verwoben (Interwoven) Shelves, that he recently exhibited at the 2009 IMM Cologne show in Germany.

From Marco dos Santos Pina:

The Verwoben (Interwoven) shelf applies the principle of fabric weaving as its central theme. A textile strap is threaded around all shelves, through milled notches in the wood, firmly tying them together. Thus diverse compartments are created which are set up in vertical arrangement and could function as partition. The textile strap is an integral component of the construction, and provides a high degree of stability. It is easy to replace, and the shelf can become a new creation time and again and can be adapted to the room environment with the use of different textiles.

Warringah House by Corben Architects

The agents at Richardson & Wrench have recently listed for sale this 4 bedroom, 5 bathroom home in the Mosman neighborhood of Sydney, Australia. The house was designed by Corben Architects.

From Corben Architects:

This project involved replacing a single storey house with a two storey one on a sensitive site with extensive water views. A simple rectilinear form was adopted, which was then carefully articulated with timber and sandstone cladding to present a modern 3-dimensional structure that fits well into its immediate context. Energy efficiency design principles were used throughout. An operable skylight over the central core allows natural light and ventilation. Concrete floors and roof were used to maximise thermal mass and thermal comfort was enhanced with Low E glazing. Overhangs and screens were used for solar protection.
