Struk Lighting from Luz Difusion

Spanish lighting manufacturer Luz Difusion have created the Struk lighting collection.

From Luz Difusion:

Struk is a lighting fixture made of a steel round structure covered by pieces of white noninflammable polyethylene mesh and plastic strips in white colour too. This collection has a suspension, ceiling and wall version.

The designer is Ricard Estruch. Influenced by arte povera, artistic movement born in Italy at the end of the sixties, means literaly “poor”. This movement used to introduce not very common materials –from industry, organic origin or common use- to make tridimensional pieces. He works in Barcelona.

The Annie Residence by Bercy Chen Studio

Bercy Chen Studio designed the Annie Residence in Austin, Texas.

From the architects:

The house was built for two families in Austin and therefore is split into two living areas. The house consists of two pavilions connected by a glass hallway.

The design was greatly influenced by different regions and cultures. Both the use of the roof as an outdoor living space and the shading devices are derived from Moorish architecture. The body of water and the spatial continuity between inside and outside was inspired by Asian architecture. while the structural transparency of the volumes and the minimalist aspect of the interior was derived from Japanese pavilions.

The house is constructed of a modular steel frame. The frame is infilled with prefab thermasteel panels to minimize construction on-site waste. The structural frame is exposed, showing the construction process and articulating the house’s facades. The repetitive modular method, as well as the prefabrication allowed for greater efficiency during construction.

Modern Bird Feeder by Andrew Lowe

Andrew Lowe, an industrial design student at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, has sent us news of a modern bird feeder that he has recently completed.

Andrew says:

feeder is designed to attract blue jays and cardinals. feeder’s unique shape renders it squirrel proof and keeps sunflower seeds dry. The positioning of the flexible perches prevent smaller and larger birds from feeding. The feeder unscrews in 3 parts for refilling. Finished in pearlescent white with titanium finished accents.

Right now it’s just a one off, most of the parts were “printed” out of plastic on a 3D SLA printer.

Andrew is currently looking for a summer internship, visit his website – here.

Rosso Restaurant Interior by SO Architecture

SO Architecture designed the interior for the Rosso Restaurant in Ramat Yishay, a town in the valley of Yezre-el in the Northern part of Israel. The design was influenced and inspired by the geography of the local area. The rolling fields that surround the restaurant are found to be continued in the restaurant’s ceiling, which is built of thirty-six steel contoured structures, and covered by painted wood. The chairs and the wide windows are decorated in plant motives to enforce the connection with the surrounding scenery. When night falls, the lighting, which is between the ceiling beams, forms a warm and somewhat mysterious, atmosphere.

Icon Lamp by V12 Design for I TRE

Valerio Cometti, the founder of the Milan, Italy based firm V12 Design, has sent us the Icon Lamp, their latest creation for the Italian lighting manufacturer I TRE, which comes in a suspension and ceiling version.

From Valerio Cometti:

Icon owes its strong personality to its distinctive shape and to the juxtaposition of opaque and transparent materials. Icon is a large decorative lamp and I’m particularly pleased with the way the light projected by its own light source interacts with it: the vast opalescent disc on the bottom side of the lamp enhances the quality of the light emission and the glass ribbon creates an elegant ring of light that brings together the heart of Icon with the external environment. It is a precious light manufactured with a great deal of accuracy, beautifully finished with its liquid painted spun metal parts, seamlessly joined with pressed glass and plexiglass details.

New Seating Designs by FRONT for Moroso

FRONT, an all-women group of Swedish designers, have created a new range of seating for Italian furniture manufacturer Moroso.

The collection makes a striking use of photographic images, an interweave of draped fabric and a photo of flying cushions, that are printed on a high-quality velvet used to cover two sofas and an armchair. The range is rounded off with a low table and a carpet with a picture of reflections of light and shadow ideally originating from a slightly open window, unseen, elsewhere. Therefore the creative process does not start from the product’s form but from a picture of that form. The work is centred around the manufacturing process, from design to finished product, in which the choice of photos and their processing are vital elements.
