The Mansion by Harrison Varma
Harrison Varma have created The Mansion, a 16,000 square foot, 8 bedroom home, located near the Kenwood House in the Hampstead area of London.
Husband and wife team Anil and Marisa Varma created their business out of sheer frustration back in 1996. Having endlessly searched for their ideal family home – a beautiful, generous, flexible modern property – they gave up and decided to design and create their own.
Over the ten years since they designed their first home, Anil and Marisa Varma have built on their success, creating a few unique homes in the exclusive avenues in Hampstead and Highgate.
Visit Harrison Varma’s website – here.
The home is now being offered for sale through the Savills agency – here.

An absolutely beautiful home!! But I wouldn’t call it an “ideal family home”. There’s too many windows to be smeared by greasy little fingers, white carpets to be ruined and the open spaces don’t make it seem very homey. That’s just my opinion! Doesn’t change the fact that it’s totally gorgeous and that I’d live there in a heartbeat!

Hmmm… So that’s what $50 million buys these days?

Wow! Pretty amazing, what recession?

It’s definitely cool but I find it a bit uninspiring. What’s great about houses in this area are the nooks and crannies. This is too open. Also the dining area and one of the living rooms looks too much like a hotel.
It is very well done and beautiful, though.

This is a modern house. Open spaces are very consistent with modern design. What’s great about this house is how open it is. If they wanted nooks and crannies, they would have built nooks and crannies. I’m guessing they were not trying to build a house like all the others in the area.
Also, considering that hotels generally have above average interiors, saying that it looks like a hotel is really a compliment.

Yes,no nooks and crannies. But if Hampstead consisted of similar houses it would not have the charm it has now.
It is another example of large, larger, largest and not much else. Think of this house at modest scale and it looses already much appeal.

Well, at least they have seating for a party of 847.

Amazing. I love how the sliding doors create an all weather pool. The one thing that seemed incongruous was the kitchen. The orange, over crowded chairs didn’t work, no?

This has considerable wow factor from start to finish.
Whilst faultless in terms of modern design as pointed out above, I would be interested in its green credentials.

I don’t think you’d ever get me out of the tub or pool .. love, love the chairs with the orange! great piece – thanks for posting!

I don’t really like it, I mean yeah it’s big, but it is just too sterile, If I were to pay that much for a home, I would want something a bit more colorful, elegant, something with a bit more pop. I mean the house looks like a mix between a hospital and 70’s orange, and 60’s wood paneling. Sorry but I just wouldn’t take it.

great design minus the uppermost level….why?

Absolutely gorgeous. Love the bathroom – stunning! And how long is that bed?? Although I do prefer my bedhead up against the main wall.
Just love it.

WoW! Love it! Awesome!
Sure a lot of work to keep it clean.
Also, I would have to invite others to live with me to make use of all the rooms!
Great Home!

If “The Shining” went tropical, I think this would be it. Very lovely but I wouldn’t want to live there.

Nice, sleek and airy, BUT – Where do they keep all their junk? What about their bric-a-brac, knick knacks, thingummybobs and tutt?! Or is there a special room that they really live in which houses all that and more, sealed off from the rest of the house behind a false wall?

Do you not see the shelves, cabinets, coffee tables, side tables, drawers, and desks?
