Modular Seating by Marina Bautier

Belgian designer Marina Bautier has created a modular seating system.

From Marina Bautier:

The basic element of the flexible seating system is the bridge shaped leg. The repetition of the oak legs creates a regular rhythm that expresses the modula-rity of the project. The thin padded seats (with or without backrest) invite to a short rest in a hall, a hotel lounge or a library for example. A metal pole with a black lampshade is fixed to the armrest. Beyond its functionality, it contributes to define an intimate sphere and introduces a warm domestic code in the rational typology of waiting rooms seating.

RIFT Armchair and Sofa by Patricia Urquiola

Patricia Urquiola has designed the RIFT armchair and sofa for the Italian manufacturer Moroso.

From Moroso:

Patricia Urquiola’s design was inspired by rift valleys, hence the collection’s name, RIFT. Just like tectonic plates, which diverge, collide and overlap, creating several layers, the Rift sofas and chairs convey, in a highly unusual way, an effect of a sliding movement and asymmetric fusion.

The Fergana Sofa by Patricia Urquiola

Patricia Urquiola has designed the Fergana Sofa for the Italian manufacturer Moroso.

From Moroso:

The Fergana collection displays the results of a careful study of textiles, which combine ancient weaving techniques from Uzbekistan with European industrial-manufacturing techniques. The collection is made up of an exceptionally comfortable, large-sized modular sofa which can become a monobloc. The frame is made entirely of wood. The sofa is not intended to be placed against a wall but as an island, which is the way Uzbek seating is traditionally arranged. Large cushions on the seat make the sofa particularly comfortable and snug.

Helix Chair by Karmelina Martina for Moroso

Karmelina Martina has designed the Helix chair for the Italian manufacturer Moroso.

The designer’s description:

Helix the snail got fed-up with the same old life in a kitchen garden, so one day she decided to leave and discover the wonders of the world. In choosing her direction she was guided by her instinct, the moon and the sun. As she was going through a wood one day, she got stuck between two tree roots. She struggled hard and long to free herself and at last, when she was almost completely exhausted, she succeeded.

How strange, though…. All of a sudden, Helix had a funny feeling of lightness. She turned to look behind her and realised she had lost her home. And she felt completely naked! From that day on, Helix slides furtively into people’s homes and covers herself with the clothes she finds there. Every day a new outfit for a new life!

The Morph Chair by Formstelle

The German design studio Formstelle have created the Morph chair for Zeitraum-Möbel.

From Zeitraum-Möbel:

MORPH brings together an unusual combination of materials. The solid wood frame carries a light molded wood shell. The positioning of the legs gives the chair a unique posture, as if it had a support and a free leg. The sculpturally formed sub-frame conveys the interplay between stability and dynamism. Due to its delicate appearance this straightforward chair exudes an air of lightness that requires only a small area.
