Fingers Shelving by Studio Arne Quinze

The Belgium based Studio Arne Quinze have created the Fingers Shelving system, which will be introduced at the 2009 Salone del Mobile furnishings show in Milan, along with other works from the producer Quinze & Milan.

From Quinze & Milan:

An unusual yet unique shelving system, made of powder coated steel shelves and wooden FINGERS seemingly piercing through the steel. Shelves never equal in size and fingers put in three different angles create an organic look symbolizing movement, randomness and chaos, nevertheless offering a maximum of usability. Next to our standard models we offer custom made Fingers. Fingers can be easily customized as it’s modified to the requirements of your own wall. Is there a window or heating system in the middle of the wall? No problem, we just build the fingers around it.

The 25 Bench by Omer Arbel

Vancouver, Canada based designer Omer Arbel has created the 25 Bench for Bocci.

Bocci, a young contemporary design and manufacturing house also based in Vancouver, Canada has thus far been known for chandelier installations and custom fabrications of extremely large proportions. In a departure from the chandelier format, Bocci introduces an upholstered bench designed by Omer Arbel as a result of his exploration of folding and pleating technique.

Conventional upholstery is based on a simple principle: foam is encased in fabric to provide comfort. The 25 bench eliminates foam from the equation and compensates by providing a vast excess of fabric, which is allowed to fold and pleat haphazardly to create a comfortable seat and back. Over time, the randomly folded pleats will shift as they conform to the human body to create interesting organic patterns.

Swamp Seating by Michiel van der Kley

Michiel van der Kley has designed the Swamp seating collection for the Dutch manufacturer Artifort.

From Artifort:

The Swamp is the latest of Michiel van der Kley’s creations for Artifort. Inviting and extremely comfortable, the Swamp is available in three versions. Swamp R is a one-person chair while Swamp XL is perfect as a snug, seductive loveseat. Swamp P is an amazingly comfortable pouffe that makes an ideal footstool for the Swamp R and XL but can also be used on its own as an extra seat. The Swamp family is fully upholstered throughout in two contrasting fabrics. And an extra bonus is that the outside fabric does not need to be a furniture fabric, providing even more possibilities. The Swamp’s exceptional comfort owes itself to its springing that combines the advantages of spiral springs and foam to achieve the optimum result.

The Swan XL Floor Lamp by Eero Aarnio

Finnish designer Eero Aarnio has created the Swan XL Floor Lamp for the Helsinki, Finland based manufacturer Martela.

The new Swan XL is a larger version of the Swan table lamp, which was introduced earlier. Swan XL is a floor lamp designed to go next to the armchair of an avid reader. It provides a focal point that looks equally impressive in private homes as well as public spaces – anywhere that requires a good spotlight.

Floor lamps are made up of three parts: the base, the stand and the shade. “I wanted to give these components a new, modern form and this led to the creation of Swan XL. It is not just a larger version of the table lamp, however. I’ve altered the dimensions to make it work better as a floor lamp. To ensure that the design was functional, I made life-size drawings of the XL version to see what it would look like next to my favourite armchair,” Eero Aarnio says.
