The Waffles Sneaker Store by BEAVERHAUSEN
BEAVERHAUSEN, a Belgian interior design studio, created the interior for the Waffles Sneaker Delicacies shoe store in Brussels, Belgium.
From the designers:
A very clean white space was designed for the Waffles sneaker store in Brussels. We took the name litteraly in order to create a world that breaths waffles. The wall behind the counter and the counter itself are covered with white tiles to give the space a bakery feeling. The shelves are simplified waffle shapes made out of coated foam. The cut-aways in the waffle shapes proudly present colourful shoes. This creates a delicious contrast while a mirror behind every cut-away shows us the other side of each shoe. And to top it all, a special waffle perfume will make your feet hungry.

The Waffles Sneaker Delicacies store is also one of the winners of the first Commerce Design Brussels contest, which aims to reward merchants in the Brussels region for the overall quality of their establishment’s design, and to showcase the work of the architects and designers who were employed to create it.
A jury made up of recognized professionals in the field of design awarded 10 Grands Prix Réalisations 2005-2008 and three Grands Prix Atrium (for implementation projects) at the first edition of Commerce Design Brussels. The projects were evaluated based on their design quality (esthetics, creativity, interior/façade/graphic design coherence, functionality, safety, longevity…), as well as on their context and the impact of the commercial design on people’s experience of the city.
Now that the winners named by the expert jury have been announced, members of the public are invited to vote for their favourites until June 2009. The voting for the people’s choice award and for the Grand Prix des Enseignes Commerce Design Brussels (for commercial signage) will take place on site at the award-winning business locations as well as online at www.commercedesignbrussels.be.
The public’s favourites will be announced this fall during the Design September festival.

This is ridiculous. Who wants to be reminded of/smell/see waffles when they are buying shoes? I understand the historical context of the waffles, but come on people, there are limits. I’d like to see this place in person too so I don’t have to see phony photographs that have 10,000 watts of extra lighting equipment to make the place look whiter than heaven. I think this is one of those idiotic ideas that instead of doing the logical thing and asking ourselves “why the (choice word)?”, we embrace it for its differences and celebrate it and give it more time than it’s worth.
Design is great, but only in the correct hands.

Would definitely love for you guys to design a location for me in the future. This is great, only a true sneaker head and fashionista, can understand your concept.
