Canna Road Residence by Ray Kappe
Recently emerging from a contemporary restoration, this house in the Brentwood district of Los Angeles was originally designed by Ray Kappe in the late 1960s.
The house was fortunate enough to have been bought by Michael LaFetra a few years ago, because LaFetra is somewhat of a savior of mid-century modern homes in the Los Angeles area. He buys iconic modern houses that have fallen into disrepair, and rescues them from being torn down by lovingly restoring them, then getting them registered as a Los Angeles historic cultural monument, and finally selling them off for someone else to enjoy.
You can read an article about Michael LaFetra in the New York Times – here.
This 5 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom home is one of LaFetra’s more recent projects that is currently for sale. View the listing – here.

Really great architecture. However, the furnishings and decor… just because it is 50 years old doesn’t make it classic. I feel like I’m looking at photos from 1958.

Love it. Not a big fan of the furniture though.

I like the architecture and the furniture, it’s all consistent with each other.
Every furniture piece in these photos could just as easily be designed as new today and nobody would question it. Maybe they’d have some more updated fabrics, but that’s about all.
Timless, classic, and excellent!

I absolutely loved it, all of it. It looked comfortable and designed for people, not robots or magazine photo shoots. This is very different frim anything I would design for myself and I wondered a little about privacy, but the house was one of very very few I have seen on the internet which I could definitely see living in with joy and pride.

Ok…for a cool 4.5 million it is pretty nice but that excludes about 99.9% of the population. Lets see something that is almost as nice with better furniture for 500K. That is something I would shower with praise.

I’d live here for ever….even if I don’t get out to the city….just watching the green, and seeing nature would be just deliteful

Good design is timeless. Might change the furniture but it “would do” until I could find something I liked better.

The photographer needs to lay off the HDR… photos are flat, unnatural and distracting.
