Brazilian designers Carolina Armellini and Paulo Biacchi of Fetiche Design have created the R540 Rocking Bench.
From the designers:
We developed the design of the weft of threads as a “connecting dots” game, looking for a ergonomic radius seating. The result is the 540 milimeters radius (~22 inches). We developed a contemporary product, but with a strong emotional interaction. This kind of threads were part of our childhood in the garden seats of the interior of Brazil. This nostalgic reference is evident in this product.

Charlotte says:
Cut and folded in two places, a flat piece of felt has created a new space. When sat upon it cocoons the occupier, lulling them into a state of relaxation. The felt is 16mm thick and made from 100% natural wool. It acts as a natural insulator from noise, which helps further to create a chilled space in which to sit.

Swedish designer Jonas Forsman has created ‘Old News’ for Creatables, a Gothenburg-based network of designers who develop products made from waste materials
Old news gives your newspapers a good home waiting for recycling. Made from thrown-away sport felt, this magazine holder will help you recycle in a stylish and responsible way.
The idea behind the Creatables range is to take care of industrial waste material and make useful product from it. In this case, a felt material normally used for sport flooring is turned into a newspaper holder.
Old news is hand-made in Gothenburg and can be bought at the Creatables web shop. Designed in cooperation with the talented guys at Creatables.

Instructables.com is a website where “people share what they do and how they do it.” They recently posted instructions on how to make your own Rubber Hose Chair, like the one seen below.
It’s a little bit rough around the edges, but we like the idea because it’s a nice example of the modernist goal of making good design accessible to everyone.
See the whole process – here.
