Levitt Goodman Architects have designed the Euclid Avenue house in Toronto, Canada.

From the architects:

Compact, ecologically smart, affordable and successfully integrated within a diverse streetscape, the Euclid Avenue House is a useful prototype for new urban housing. The project’s design restraint, responsive plan and its unity of architecture and nature establish an array of alternatives to the shortcomings of Toronto’s housing typologies.

Simplicity of means has resulted in a strategically planned and relaxed living space that accommodates the life of a full family and invites the varying temperature, light and colour of Toronto’s fluctuating seasons into the house, imbuing it with a rural sensibility that is an astonishing compliment to its urban setting.

The Surface Tension Writing Desk by Lukas Peet

Lukas Peet, a recent graduate of the Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands, now living and working in Canada, has designed the Surface Tension writing desk.

The desk features leather stretched over a wood frame creating a hard/soft writing and working surface, allowing a pen to easily glide on a single piece of paper, as well as being comfortable on your hands, wrists, and elbows.

The Ross Street House by Robert Mills Architects

Robert Mills Architects have sent us some photos of the Ross Street house in Melbourne, Australia.

The new timber, zinc and concrete Ross Street home is a study in surprise.  The sharp angularity of the concrete facade and zinc awning blades invoke a clean modernist aesthetic.  Inside, the light and mood softens immediately with a rendered steel sculptural staircase as the pivotal ground floor focus, combined with the interiors created by Hassell.  As a true example of bringing the outdoors in, frameless glass windows seamlessly link the interior to the same level outside, which includes a 13.5m pool running the length of the north wall.

Alila Villas Soori by SCDA Architects

SCDA Architects have completed the Alila Villas Soori, a new resort and residential villa community on the southwest coast of Bali, Indonesia, which is scheduled to open in December 2009.

This latest property by Alila Hotels & Resorts offers 48 villas ranging in size from 1,680 square feet for a one-bedroom villa, to a 49,500-square foot 10-bedroom villa.  Each villa integrates elements from the surrounding environment with a graceful expression of contemporary Asian design. Located off the tourist trail, the resort is situated on a gentle slope between lush, green rice terraces and black-sand beaches overlooking panoramic vistas of the Indian Ocean.
