Making The RD Legs Chair (VIDEO)
British design firm, Cohda Design, have created a video that shows how they make the RD Legs Chair that was designed by Cohda’s founder, Richard Liddle.
Besides simply being something interesting to look at, the chairs use a proprietary process that allows them to make the chairs from 100% molten plastic waste. For more info on their use of reclaimed plastic, read this article – here.

VERY cool, however, why on earth would you not have that on some sort of turn table that is elevated off the ground while doing it? The amount of bending over and crouching that goes into this is painful to watch. I’d hate to have to make those all day long for days/weeks on end.

Zero34, for the price each chair sells for, I’m sure almost anyone would gladly bend over and crouch into painful positions to make these chairs all day/week/month/year long! Don’t get me wrong, the concept here is really cool. However, they’re not doing us any favors once you factor in the price they charge. Hell, if I were getting paid that kind of money, I’d be willing to make them all day every day in extreme cold/hot conditions with one hand tied behind my back & a vicious attack dog chewing on one of my legs.

It’s great to see designers trying to make use of waste materials.

high-end, custom, or one-off furniture will always ask for a much higher price. as will furniture using any sort of reclaimed material. that’s just the nature of the business. £789.00 as a price just doesn’t surprise me that much anymore…
