Parliament’s Office Interior Design
Parliament, a graphic design/marketing company in Portland, Oregon, have shared some photos of their office interior design with us.
The design features a number of pieces made from salvaged and reclaimed materials, including salvaged pizza ovens, street signs, and wood from old crates, a barn and a church.

Nice details

Love the varnished 2″x8″ Spruce Wall. Nice use of common lumber. I like the number of recycled elements in this space.
I would love to take it over and set up my shop in all that space!
Nice work.

Now that is an inspiring workplace!
Love the “ordered roughness” and the attention to detail.

The BEAR SKIN is just not ethic!
UNACCEPTABLE!
If already existed somehow in the studio, shoud be not exposed as a Carpet.
If is Fake, than better but is Kitch..
Great interior design.

do they actually work?
AJ on 21 Jan 2010 at 11:27 am #
Nice use of recycled elements, but poor workstation design. Non-adjustable work surface height + non-adjustable plastic bucket chair = repetitive stress injury in short order for anyone who is not exactly the right height with exactly the right arm length. Ergonomics FAIL.

Amazing and inspiring space!

can I work here?
dean on 21 Jan 2010 at 1:50 pm #
are they hiring? ;p
Jonathan on 21 Jan 2010 at 1:58 pm #
Very nice. So much more inspiring than the plaster and paint interi-bores of most businesses.
Zach on 21 Jan 2010 at 1:58 pm #
That bear skin rug cracks me up! He’s wearing a fez, just like bears do in nature!
Jesse on 21 Jan 2010 at 2:25 pm #
nice office
but i wouldn’t want to sit on one of those plastic chairs all day
Rafael on 21 Jan 2010 at 2:29 pm #
I love the mixed of industrial with cabin look, specially the wall made of wood pieces with the contrast of the cement. Great space!
My only complain, bear looks grotesque!

Love the Shriner hat on the bearskin rug.
ChrisfromAustralia on 21 Jan 2010 at 3:00 pm #
I love the industrial/recycled design of the space. It adds a warmth to an otherwise cool shell.
Sure the bear might not be pc, but it is probably quite an old pelt that has been in a family for some time or they picked it up in a local antiquarium or the like.
The desks look great, but as @AJ mentioned, they lack height adjustability and I wouldn’t be happy sitting on a plastic shell chair all day.
The bit I love the most though is the use of the band posters throughout their break-out area – that’s cool.
Get these guys to Melbourne, Australia and collaborate with some of our designers!

Do you people not see the Aeron chairs?
Do you people not know what Aeron chairs are?
Clearly they have something other than plastic shell chairs to sit on. Maybe the people who have the plastic shell chairs want to sit on them?

This looks more like the basement of a cool college dorm than of a business. But if it works for them, it is certainly a an improvement over cubicle land.

Fucking awesome!

Love the Sol glasses as pencil holders (third pic).
A great way to recycle and re-use.

Wow – I would love to have a space like this to work in. Unbelievable!

Not my style but I can still really appreciate it. Nice place.

I want to work here, actually I’d settle for just being invited over every couple of weeks just to shoot pool, listen to flaming lips and talk interiors with the bear……
Toph on 22 Jan 2010 at 10:26 am #
I can’t believe those negative comments. A bunch of jealous haters…I would give anything to work there, not to mention they are located in beautiful PDX!
chip s on 22 Jan 2010 at 11:31 am #
As noted, they do have normal work chairs, but the plastic chairs people are complaining about are Eames Eiffel Chairs- they are quite comfortable, and when I work at home, I’ve used them in 8 hour stretches and they are fine.
All the complaints about non adjustable work height surface- I’ve never worked at a office where you could change the desk height (usually you change your chair height) – it hardly seems worth knocking them for this. The way they got by having way cheaper desks but keeping them stylish and unified is pretty commendable.

One of the most beautiful interiors I’ve ever seen. The bearskin is classic. Fuck PCness.

A beautiful space. genius. thanks for the pix.

Who was the architect/interior designer?

looks like a teenager’s rec room.

Love the space! Envy your beautiful Eames chairs in the lounge/reception.
Nice touch with the Fez hat on the bear.
ONYX on 25 Jan 2010 at 3:58 pm #
My favorite part is the bearskin rug, just to piss-off the hyper-sensitive-i-must-judge-everyone people. The fez on the bear is brilliantly hilarious. To hell with PC, it’s culturally fascist.Back to the post, sweet use of materials. I totally want to work and write there. Wicked.

Looks great!
I would love to work in an atmosphere like that.

Innovative! Putting that together must’ve taken a lot of careful thought. A little carelessness with this theme and things could have gone oh soooo wrong.
World-conscious! There is a statement implicit here that is a very forward-looking and relevant.
Maybe a little too masculine? And I’m struck by novelty, where it might get tiring after working there for a few months. Finally, how resilient is the effect if the space gets cluttered with paper and boxes – yikes!
MIchelle Judd on 29 Jan 2010 at 9:22 am #
WOW! I would never want to go home. Only thing, a place this cool needs dual monitors. Cubeland with duals is survivable. Cool-land w/out? I’m not so sure. ; -) Thanks for sharing.

Plaid shirts! Surprise!
Kit on 31 Jan 2010 at 9:18 pm #
It looks like a boys club which makes sense when you see that all the employees are white guys. I’d pass on working with them since I don’t need a man cave.

Holy. Wow. I want to work w/you people..
elissa on 06 Feb 2010 at 2:54 pm #
The pictures do it justice, but you seriously have to be in the space to really really appreciate all of their attention to detail. The hospitality and spirit of the place makes it sing. Way to go guys.

Pam on 08 Oct 2010 at 8:48 am #
I like it. It’s very masculine.
I agree with the comment about the bear skin rug, although I love the Eastern Euro’ little hat.
It’s not an ergonomic fail, the computer stations where I assume the real work gets done have adjustable height, back friendly, chairs.

This a designer’s dream workspace. Haha. They should give tours. ;D
