Swedish designer Måns Salomonsen has created Cocoon, a fruit/vegetable storage and herb cultivation unit for the kitchen.

From the designer:

Grow spices and store fruits in the organic shape and you will get both life and colour in the kitchen. Cocoon is made of clay which absorbs water from the fruit and vegetables. When the water evaporates it cools the shell.

The Richmond Olympic Oval by Cannon Design

The Richmond Olympic Oval, is a facility in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada (a suburb of Vancouver), that is the venue for the speed skating events of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Designed by Cannon Design, the building was built on a site beside the Fraser River, with the roof taking the stylized shape of a heron’s wing, a tribute to the large wading birds that live along the riverbank.

Heavy/Light by Dieter Janssen

Toronto based architect Dieter Janssen has created the ‘Heavy/Light’ light fixture.

Made of cast-iron with xenon lighting components, Heavy/Light began as an investigation into modelling cloud formations, initially for the purpose of developing a possible roof structure on a private residence. As a hanging light however, the sequence of vaulted arches, each pinching or flattening, reflect a varied light onto the space below defining a carved field of illumination.
