Convertible Bamboo Table by Tom Rossau
Danish designer Tom Rossau has created a convertible bamboo table.
Tom created the table because he and his girlfriend live in a small apartment (around 65m2), and he wanted a coffee table that could turn into a dining table when they had guests.

Hmm.. not quite sure… Aesthetically very nice (when coffee table), but I’m positive there’d be some hygiene issues about that part touching the floor / getting kicked by people’s shoes all over the surface…
Good idea for small spaces, nevertheless.

Interesting concept, as as mentioned by ronaldo, hygiene seems like it’d be an issue. My bigger question is, how often have you needed your bench/coffee table to become a regular use dining room table? Not to mention, unless you have two+ people there to unfold it, you’ve got to make sure it’s cleared off before opening up the legs.
Though it seems like a good idea, and it’s done with style and a great material, it just doesn’t have the functionality that it advertises due to it’s inherent drawbacks.

Living in a small space, I think its a great idea. As for hygiene, whats what with you cleaning the surface when you open it up to a dining table?!

Sorry….I meant whats wrong with you cleaning the surface when you open it up to a dining table?!

Great idea, well executed, looks beautiful…and yes, if you have guests with soiled shoes tracking something worse than mud through your house and then repeatedly kicking your coffee table it could turn out to be a sanitation issue…probably best just not to invite such strange people over and get the nice coffee/dining table.

Living in limited space, I can only call it a improvement for everyday living. Bravo!!

Really, the hygiene and clearing the surface issues are far-fetched. It is such a minor task to wipe the end of the table or put aside some magazines and electronic gadgets.
This is a very elegant solution for a space related problem. I think it is not a small feat to achieve a nice looking table for a coffee and dining table in one. Well done.

Great solution! Also, if you’re concerned about hygiene when the large surface is open…use a tablecloth.

I like it. Is it sturdy enough to be a bench as well as a coffee table?

Love it. Where can I purchase one? Can you ship to the US?

I like the table, I just can’t figure out where to buy one, or how much. Any leads for someone in the USA

Absolutely brilliant idea! Practical, simple and useful. Wish I could see more intelligent stuff like this, rather than the 90% that is just more ‘stuff’. BRAVO… and I hope you see this through to production

whats with this hygiene issue? how about cleaning the table before eating off it. i think it looks amazing and the space saving feature is a winner coupled with an elegant design. a lot of convertible tables look awful.
does anyone know where to get this in Australia?
Luca on 24 Jan 2011 at 8:22 am #
Are there measurements of this table?
Is it available in the UK?

This is great. I also live in Australia – anyone know where I can get one of these here?
