The Seafarer Residence by Jared Poole
Location : Surfers Paradise, Queensland, Australia.
Site Area : 1390m2
Building Area : 1880m2
The composition and massing of this 3 level plus basement carpark residence was a response to the shape and constraints of it’s site. Located in Surfers Paradise, Australia, the site tapers out from a street frontage of 10m, to a water frontage of almost 60m capturing views from the hinterland to the ocean, this delivered opportunities from most off the house to provide an outlook, whilst maintaining privacy from neighbours, influencing the planning of the house.
Strongly expressed lines and flowing forms emphasize a strong relationship with the site. A balanced application of horizontal and vertical elements complement the use of framed elements to provide relief to the visual bulk of the building.

K wow, i literally died! I’m in love with Australian architects. They create such beautiful contemporary houses without trying too hard.

10 bathrooms? Come off it!
This isn’t architecture. It’s a development. Of the usual standard of insane proportions, unnecessary structure, auction procured materials and no detailing.
Contemporist – can we see some clever small projects from now on please?

The furniture is indeed shocking!
A turkish rug in a contemporary designed house?
Jimw on 13 May 2010 at 4:15 pm #
Just goes to show money does not buy taste….what a cacophonous collection of trite architectural moves…..
Jim, I’m not so taken back by the turkish rug as I am by the hideous stools in the kitchen. Cut back on about a third of the over-designed excess and spend that money on a good interior designer to assist in complementing -and showcasing – the investment.

Love Boat!!!!!!! Soon will be making another runnnnn! LOOOVEEE BOOOOOOOOAT! Sung by Mya Rudolph as Donatella Versace of course. That pretty much sums it up.

Totally agree with you this time, TW.
Though, I must notice that the plans have some good intentions of composition and integration,
so it’s a pitty that the architect didn’t know how to continue better.

This house is magnificent from top to bottom and clearly many of the above have not a clue when it comes to taste, quality or any type of idea for that matter, clear case of tall poppy….Im sure they are just living the dream…Good Luck to them!
