The Kiltro House by Supersudaka
Supersudaka architects have designed the Kiltro House in Talca, Chile.

.
Description from Supersudaka:
This project is almost a statement of how to accomplish architecture in Latin-america. The process was so unsteady, that all possible architectural design resources available where exercised to cope with the challenge of this house in the Chilean Central Valley. Everything was in constant change: the program, the surface, building permits, the contractors, even the view! The modus operandi is rather based on mistakes than certainties. The result: a mix, a bastardized design, a fusion, like a crossbreed dog, in Chilean: A Kiltro.

Like the idea but I can spot serious design flaws that compromise it. For example: Great views, but unfortunately they are obstructed on one side by the external ramp to the roof. And why did they bother with the step ladder when they already have access to the roof. I think the only thing i like about this design is the utilisation of the roof space as an extra communal area.

Not sure what to make of this one – on one hand I like the undulating form of the roof and the rough cut timbers, on the other hand it’s a death trap – if you ever had children (or an adult with a couple of drinks in them) at the house you would have to lock them away somewhere because the uneven surface of the roof is just asking for someone to trip over and throw themselves down the hill!

The simplicity is stunning, fits perfectly on to the landscape. The rough wood planks and the shape are a knockout. Looks like it would be a fun and comfortable place to hang out.

I agree with Smack for the death trap aspect, some plants could do the trick on the roof, but the ramp, around the house and up ?? don’t want to sound too cautious because it looks great, but “high” and “narrow” come to mind I have to say…

I like the IDEA of this house altho I can’t imagine any country with building codes lenient enough to allow it.
But the design has been badly executed. To many planes, odd shape, inelegant ramp.

I love this. I have seen loads of great houses, all very contemporary, in Chile. How come there are so many brilliantly designed houses in this type of style in Chile?
