House in Dionysos by Nikos Koukourakis
The main architectural thought was to design a modern house with straight lines and big openings to a flat garden. This enables the natural light to travel through every space of the house, reducing the amount of energy needed to illuminate the house. Furthermore the house was designed and built according to ‘’green architectural choices of materials used, such as:
·Building’s orientation: glass openings facing south
·facade insulation system
·aluminium windows with thermal – break system
·double glass windows: external 6mm energy glass, 14mm gap, 4mm +4mm triplex glass
·home automation – smart house
·70% of the lighting fixtures are using LED technologyThe continuous optical dialogue between the inside and the outside is achieved by the 3.50m (each panel) sliding windows that appear in the main elevation. The house was first designed in every detail in a computer 3-D model, which allowed to have a better understanding of the building’s interaction with the environment.
The building dominates with its clean-cut lines, while its volume is split, without being dissolved, from the rich perimetric openings giving to it an airy sense via to their exposure to natural light. The big glass surfaces leave a permanently open dialogue with outside, without creating the least sense of isolation in the interior of the house.

The outside front resembles a commercial building, it doesn’t give that homey feel. The bedroom is nice though.

There is nothing to like or dislike with the interior. The exterior leave me cold though.
I also question the token response to it being a “green” house. All of those things listed are par for the course these days for any good architect/builder. And although the glass openings are facing south, there is no cross ventilation so aircon will be essential. So any energy saved with lighting will be squandered tenfold on energy required to cool and heat those open, double height spaces.

I agree with BjZ, the exterior resembles an office building, which feels like cheating(take any contemporary 3 story office building, convert it into a home and vwahlah!). I like the interior, but I couldn’t grow old in something like that. At least not a sedimentary lifestyle. It feels like a Bachelor pad on steroids. The open design grabs me. The pool though?….meh. Maybe if they added a diving board on the top level. This home is badly in need of a view of the Mediterranean.

Love the stairdetail and the walkway above. For a minute, I thought the walkway above was a water feature because of the glass reflection.
Nice play!

Modern, simple, strong and dynamic lines. Good job!
The big openinigs and the double height living room are really impressive! I like the curved banister, the stairs and the wooden constuction above the fireplace. These details really make a difference in the interior.

A very typical modern but clean, easy going structure, giving away energy to the inhabitants from the surounding environment. Surely a relaxed place for everyone enjoying simple lines and simple laxury relaxation.
Concrads.

I’m really impressive by the harmony of the house with nature. The cubes of modern architecture isn’t hard before the soft and purity of surrounded landscape. The aspect of light is great through the small pool that reflect on the glass-system.I wish i could in there once to enjoy the beauty of it

Unfortunately, nothing new or impressive about this house. Simply following the tendency of all modern houses in that country. Un-ergonomic and hugely energy consuming.
