Offcut Stools by Edwards Moore
Australian designers Ben Edwards and Juliet Moore have created the Offcut Stools.
As a contribution to this year’s State of Design Festival, Edwards Moore designed and constructed a set of bar stools for a popular city venue made entirely from reclaimed materials. They used discarded timber off cuts from a variety of sources to create the structure, bound together using an industrial ratchet. The top was then sanded and finished with linseed oil, putty and wax to create a smooth surface.

is it “art” or is it “trash”? i’ll o with trash. looks like what cheap college students would do with no money, and I for one would never spend real money on trash like this.

the idea behind this, i believe not to sell this but rather create and design. if you have lumber laying around in your garage. create something out it. for example this stool

As stated above.. some think it looks like trash.. and to an extent they are right.. only because this designer chose to leave it unfinished… But…replace the steel strapping with a chromed or polished stainless one and add a thick top coat of paint.. It totally changes the appeal.. yet is the same thing… upcycled bits of wood…

The top view is incredible, beautiful, and–best of all–authentic. I could go for sanding and finish on the sides, though, to make em feel clean enough to have inside. For outdoor, could leave em as is. Awesome, though, because it’s
-inexpensive
-recycled
-DIY
I love stuff that’s truly artistic yet not expensive.
