The beauty in this piece is in the imperfections and raw ends of the wood. Painting the wood hides the nature of the material. With painted wood, one is left with random sticks that have no character and give you no clue as to how the stool was made. For a more polished look it could be cleaned and coated with a matte polyurethane. Very creative re-use project. The wood shows a viewer how they could implement their own recycled products into a use like this.

The top view is incredible, beautiful, and--best of all--authentic. I could go for sanding and finish on the sides, though, to make em feel clean enough to have inside. For outdoor, could leave em as is. Awesome, though, because it's
-inexpensive
-recycled
-DIY
I love stuff that's truly artistic yet not expensive.

As stated above.. some think it looks like trash.. and to an extent they are right.. only because this designer chose to leave it unfinished... But...replace the steel strapping with a chromed or polished stainless one and add a thick top coat of paint.. It totally changes the appeal.. yet is the same thing... upcycled bits of wood...

the idea behind this, i believe not to sell this but rather create and design. if you have lumber laying around in your garage. create something out it. for example this stool

is it "art" or is it "trash"? i'll o with trash. looks like what cheap college students would do with no money, and I for one would never spend real money on trash like this.
