The Mussel Chair by Hanne Kortegaard
Danish designer Hanne Kortegaard has sent us the Mussel Chair that she created as her graduation project from the Danish Design School in Copenhagen.

.
Description from Hanne Kortegaard:
The Mussel is intended for young people but also children and adults. I have tried to visualize the symbiosis that can occur between child and adult in a cozy environment. Transferring the concept and form of the mussel, into a form where I have let myself be inspired by the mussels idiom. Because the mussel for me symbolizes and expresses the symbiosis and dependence of two objects – the shell and the mussel.

This is just fantastic! A natural evolution of chairs from earlier decades. I especially love the chair’s legs.

Although it looks like some of the mid-century chairs that are now classic in their own right, I think this Mussel chair still achieves originality by employing the mussel “meat” that can serve as:
1) armrest
2) footrest
3) head rest
4) ottoman, or even
5) child seat booster
IT’S A CLEVER IDEA!
I would like to see this chair in colorful as well as subdued colors. I just hope that it won’t be too expensive when it arrives in stores.
You get an A+ from me if I were your professor. Hope it gets commercial success!
