House in Guimarães by Sequeira Architects
650 square meters were needed to solve all the requirements of the owner. The house would have to be spread over three floors in order to adjust to about 10 meters in height difference between the extremes of the longitudinal field. The landscape was nice. Oriented to west and with a large panoramic through the city of Guimarães, would make sense to use this attributes to favor the social and private areas exploring natural light and a view from this privileged orientation.
On the ground floor is the larger enjoyable area of plot, where we can find the living and dining rooms, the kitchen and the pool deck, always with the possibility of merge the interior space with outer space by moving the slinding doors.
On the middle floor is the sleeping rooms and the highest floor works likes the main access to the house. Here is the office and an outdoor balcony that enjoys the best view of the whole building.
The dark gray color applied to the building volumes fall it in the surroundings and the interior courtyards transform its mass in contemplative zones

Love this! Simple and elegant. Really appeals to my minimalist taste.(Though, if I’m reading the plans correctly, 6 bathrooms seems a little excessive!!)

Yeah nice lines and all.
But 650m2? And 6 bathrooms? Architectural consumerism is never attractive.

Very cool looking dwelling in an interesting location. The house seems to have a nice human scale to it though large. Would not only like to see a kitchen but the house furnished and the landscape bedded in.

Spectacular. Very well thought out and extremely appealing to my minimalist taste as well. 650 sqm is an ideal size for a comfortable living not too huge not too small. As for the exterior choice of color, I think maybe a brighter tone of gray would be more suitable. Love the excessive use of glass. Excellent location too.

We needed to design a house for a big family. Parents, Esmaralda, Carolina, John and Philippa.Parents asked for a studio and children asked for a family room. Result is a house, in fact.

i agree with many above, intriguing layout, light, transparency. don’t love “side by side” bedrooms though…
that sofa is hot! what is it and where can i find??

I consider this minimalism well done. Though I think minimalism can become too sterile if overwhelmingly composed of white walls and glass, this uses color quite well. I’ve often seen very photogenic minimalist spaces which utterly lack a warmth to them. Quite frankly, I’m impressed by this minimalist execution which retains a quality of warmth to it.

real nice layout the house looks amazing. i understand that it is located on a hill side. but i still have one question about the house’s section. the living area is situated at ground level -3 floors down from entry level in order, i assume, to allow access to the garden. this means if you have a guest arriving in order to great him at entry level you need to go up by stairs or lift open the door and go back down?.
don’t get me wrong i totally agree with this kind of section i just really wanted to know how you solve this kind of scenario – is there a tv system to allow the owner to open the door to whom ever is calling ?
r e a l l y b e a u t i f u l house!!
each level is so simply and elegantly planed.

Yes Daniel, is a system of video-intercom (home automation) that lets you see who is and open the door …!

Hi Alfredo !
thank you for your reply. i had this kind of argument with a client i designed a house for. his house was also situated on a hill side and i wanted to create the same kind of section.some times clients stick to conventional solutions and it is really hard to convince them, so your house was a real great example!!.
and once again beautiful house!!
i was wondering if i can get your email address ?
