Vaucluse Renovation by Bruce Stafford Architects
Bruce Stafford Architects have designed the renovation of an existing house which was originally an 80′s style multi-tenancy building in Sydney, Australia. Only the external walls were retained to comply with the approved council envelope. A completely new look for the house was designed, both inside and out. Dramatic views of the harbor and the site’s natural amenities were maximized.

Really modern interiors! A floor plan would be nice.

Well I suppose it has good views going for it.
But that is one uninteresting house.
And what’s with aluminium clad columns? Surely an architect could have designed the spatial arrangments so that any structural requirements were hidden? Next time hire a good interior designer to plan out the rooms and work your structure around that.

love the soft furnishings – adds warmth to the spatial arrangement

Great photos. Worth looking at for sure, altho hard to see the spatial composition. But it is all pretty sleek without feeling too sterile. Hopefully there must be some thought to energy consumption and not just these high-conductivity glass walls. By the look of the sunset, the house faces west, and the afternoon sun must have been challenging. What kind of glass?

I don’t really like it. What is odd is I can’t exactly say WHY I don’t like it. Perhaps it’s a little too slick; a little too much like an office foyer interior with a sofa added; too many shiny surfaces. Can’t pinpoint it. It’s a personal ‘gut reaction’ type of thing.
I’d kill for that view.

Naturally I’d kill for the house with that view and positioning.
I am going out on a limb by saying that designers today are over compensating on textures, tones and surfaces. Previously designers were very sterile and all one colour, but to me we seem to be going in exactly the opposite direction. Too much is just well…too much. (ie. all the different woods in the one room)
It’s still beautiful of course but there just needs to be a better refined balance.
I’m not right or wrong. Just my thoughts.

Wow – blast from the South African past. Some of my friends worked for Bruce in Durban, and the photographer is an old friend, also from Durban. Guess everyone moved to Oz…
