Form Follows Function Sofa by Daan Mulder
Dutch designer Daan Mulder has created the ‘Form Follows Function’ sofa.

.
Description from the designer:
A three dimensional model of the sofa is created with a computer program. The model consists of three curved faces which can be virtually unfolded. Next, these faces are manufactured from steel plates with a laser cutting process. The plates are bent and welded together to obtain the final shape of the sofa. All functionalities of the sofa are created from one continuous line.

Stunning, perfect, chic, etc. One of the best designs i’ve ever seen. I’d love to get one.

Somehow it suggests a feeling of freedom – great!

very feminine, little bit zaha hadid, a bit cold as sofa but I can’t deny that it’s impressive! well done

very nice. stands out as an art piece as well as a sofa. I would put it in my garden just to look at it. Good Job!

Absolutely beautiful. My only concern is that it is hard and cold to sit on.

Gorgeous lines, elegant and sumptuous. I like the couch too.

“created with a computer program.”

Nice shape anyway.

It reminds me of the Eames la chaise.

This is a beautiful piece of sculpture. Well done.

The form is very sculptural. Like other comments I can picture it in a garden setting, but to call it a ‘sofa’ – come on, really!

Beautiful piece of sculptural furniture. Made of steel. But I can’t see myself curling up on it on a long winters nights watching a 3 hour movie with a cup of hot chocolate!!

Awesome piece of furniture but……..how much it cost? half million dollars? design must be for everybody!

Diego – what a dumb assumption about the cost.
And if you want a product that is a “design for everybody”, go to Kmart.

TW, i´m talking about industrial design, not art.

eames La chaise?????? omg is there someone who has any notion about history and the process that initiated eames furniture and why the la chaise is the only design that doesn’t fit in with other eames chairs??? Please read more about the history of production methods then you will know the difference between this sofa and eames work.. and people who only judge a design by form miss allot in life
