Sky Ranch by Miller Hull Partnership
Miller Hull Partnership have designed the Sky Ranch, a rooftop house in Seattle, Washington.

.
Project description:
Millions of square feet of warehouse roofs exist in our cities. Most are occupied only by pigeons and mechanical units. In Seattle, many warehouses are near waterways and have territorial views of the beautiful Pacific Northwest. This project is one example of what is possible if we look at these forgotten landscapes as new opportunities. This single family residential / caretakers unit sits on the roof of the Stimson Marina in the Ballard neighborhood.

Perfect. Nothing to add or take away here. Looks very peaceful, view is amazing, and it has a very “breezy” feeling to it. Interior is just wonderfuly balanced, simple, functional and has a real “home” touch. I would like to see more bathroom pics.

This wonderfully creates a small oasis out of otherwise waste space. The bookcase unifies the design, the inner world of books contrasts with the outer world viewable in the opposite direction. The addition of so much greenery makes one forget what lies below. It’s modest, simple, and above all, comfortable.

I think the only technical problem is the reinforcement of the roof structure to support the whole house AND the trees!, you gotta be careful with tthe roots there!… That aside, the project is well solved, the house seems modest but really comfy, and I can perfectly imagine a little disorder there without bringing the whole design down.

This is a design i’d love to come home to at the end of a hard days work. It is simple but lovely. Crisp and clean. Very inspirational!

Isn’t that adorable. What a clever use of space. It feels like a small villa in all its privacy. You get the advantage of altitude since it’s on a rooftop and there is a lot more that could be done to it, like a small garden or vegetable patch. It’s very inspiring and nicely decorated.
Well done!

Simplicity in this house makes a lot of sense. And the wood treatment in the interior contrasts well with the metal in the exterior. It’s like a comfy nest in a sturdy cocoon.
Great work (if the roof can hold the house for a very long time). Love it.

Very inspirational project.
Curious about all the questions concerning the projects structural integrity. Where are those coming from?
I expect more from those commenting on such a quality blog.

Excellent concept and execution. A great example of thinking outside of the box, or rather, on top of it in this case. Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Bad jokes aside, I think this creates a simply designed and quite comfortable residence.
