St. Barths Residence by Barnes Coy Architects
Barnes Coy Architects designed this residence on the Caribbean island of St. Barthelemy.

.
The house is sited on a high, thin peninsula, affording 270 degree views from South through West to North. The long axis of the house is perpendicular to the axis of the peninsula, aligning it with sunrise and sunset. The main space is open from North to South, with bedrooms behind a wall that angles away toward the South-East, making the space wider at the West end of the house. The effect is akin to a lens opening up to the view across a bay and other islands beyond. Each bedroom opens to a private walled terrace with an outdoor shower beneath a pergola.
The West and South facades are floor-to-ceiling glass panels. The glass panels part at the corner and slide into the exterior walls, opening the house completely and allowing the Pennsylvania Limestone wall to extend beyond without interruption. This allows for a seamless connection between the main living space and the exterior spaces, engaging the entire site as an extension of the house.

Gorgeous. Architecture is spot on.
This is cut and sunk into the rock-The exterior is just a bit “hard” however – and would benefit from the use of epiphytes (air plants) & bromeliads. Mosquito’s are a problem here? Some carefully placed planters are also needed. I see the invasive Casuarina/Australian pine in the background of a picture (top row – 3rd from the left). Too bad.

Dreamy!
Very beautiful, has a kind of a dreamy lounge effect, visualising it better on a Greek island,
Thank you for the concept.

Can’t make up my mind… in some respects it’s marvellous. I like the layout, the way it creates inside-outside spaces, how it benefits from the great location. But then I look again, and it looks pretty average, especially the details are rather poor. And I think I’m not too keen on the grude stone walls either…

Agree wtih Christian… the layout looks interesting (which typically for me is 1/2 the value). But the style is, well, just not too exciting. Finish choice looks pretty pedestrian. And I for one am not hot on the stone and wood beams everywhere.
Nothing wrong with; it’s just kinda dull.

Beautiful, but isn’t that a lot of Pennsylvania limestone to haul all the way to the Caribbean?
