Brussels-based designer Marcial Ahsayane has created the Green Mailbox, which features a shelf for holding a plant, and an inclined v-shape that captures rain water to irrigate the plant.

A drizzle or light rain would have been fine but a heavy rain will definitely drown and topple down the plant

Cute, but it always needs a teeny tiny plant. And I suppose if you live in the desert you could put up a small cactus, but if you live where it rains regularly you drown your plant. Just slapping a rain drain on the top really doesn’t make it green.

What a genius design! I wonder if that would be possible to do on a larger scale using the entire roof for instance to provide water for a larger amount of plants.

Im inclined to agree with the critics here. Seems like “green” design should be more than an excuse to add a planter to something.

Silvio, I think the difference is the design allows the plant to get more water than it would otherwise.
