The NaCl House by David Jameson Architect
Architect David Jameson has sent us images of the NaCl house in Bethesda, Maryland.
.
Description from the architect:
Breaking the prescriptive mold of horizontally layered homes, NaCl House aspires to render unclear the spatial organization of the project and explore an architecture of ambiguous scale. The resultant massing reveals an imperfect, rough-hewn form recalling the natural isometric formation of mineral rock salt.
The exterior composition is read as a single object that reflects a dynamic fluid interior. Uncorrelated to the buildings structure, glazing panels are detailed flush to the exterior surface, eliminating shadows which further inhibit a reading of the buildings scale.

I kinda like the concepts of this design. But ma concerns for similar designs are simply its use of natural vetilation. And ma concerned is borne out of the fact that i live in africa. In other words in ma own opinion it does not pass ma green test. As for the concept…thumb up

The excellent relation between external and internal here defies adequate praise in this outstanding work.
And it’s great to see the architecture continued to its ground.
If the driveway then followed the canon, it would hint at being a river into nature from this unnatural source and enhance the significance of this delightful work.

Its a bit hard to hide the scale of a structure when you’ve got a garage door blatantly visible. Still I like the final look, gives me some Eisenmanesque vibes but with blocks instead of planes and sticks.

I like the corner windows and the lightness inside. However as a whole this house in my opinion looks too detailed. The interior resembles a catalogue. Can’t imagine anybody sitting right opposite each other (like having a public debate) on those PK22 chairs. On the other hand those chairs are a piece of art and in a photo they look best positioned like that

This looks like the love child of Habitat 67 and Michael Graves early houses. Totally.
White box minimalism isn’t my preference, but this has a nice plan, enticing form, it’s well done, and was executed very well.
Thumbs to Jameson. He has an enviable portfolio.

The Sodium Chloride House – good choice of name.
And when it rains, it is called Brine.
