Paletz Moi House by Kenneth E Hobgood Architects
Kenneth E Hobgood Architects designed the Paletz Moi house in Durham, North Carolina.
.
Description from the architects:
The project is located on a steeply sloping site approximately 15 minutes by car from the campus of Duke University. Both clients are professors at Duke University and both are writers. The program called for 3 bedrooms, living/dining and related spaces. Because both clients work at home it was important that the environment of the house be as open to the outdoors as possible. Both clients required both an indoor and outdoor workspace. To maximize light throughout the day the house is organized in a linear way along an East West axis. The idea was to lift the house on a concrete block base and give the feeling of being in the trees.

This house is huge. But it’s unbelievable how small and cramped the living and dining areas are.

Love it! With its basic I-beams for structure. Simple and tasteful.

Beautifully detailed. I love the way that it sits on the site – perched in the trees. Nice to see in the deep south.
