Project description

This contemporary model home gently pushes the envelope of progressive design in Orlando, Florida’s residential marketplace. From the earliest stages of its design, the homebuilder, Ashton Woods Homes, engaged both architects and interior designers to maximize its livability and personalization.

The floor plan is the basis of the three-storey model, which has been fully customized with only the window openings left in place.

Everything flows from the floor plan. It extends sightlines, captures light and locates focal points and feature walls. It is unobtrusive and retractable or expandable based on homeowners’ needs. A careful study in how occupants move through space, the floor plan brings all interior elements into alignment. Each space introduces the other and all engage the outdoors, as manifested most profoundly in the open-plan kitchen–dining–seating area, the hub of the home.

Distinct zones of mood and function are carved out of the overall layout, with well-placed textures, materials and light sources. These strategic interventions maintain focus on the interiors’ architecture, imparting a modern, pared-back sensibility to the home.

A restrained, two-tone palette is applied to the inside shell of the home, with white walls, espresso-black floors and black-and-white custom millwork. The cabinetry forms a seamless interface of architecture and functionality.
