MAMM DESIGN has designed the renovation of an apartment in an 85-year-old building in Amsterdam that includes a rarely seen sunken kitchen design.

The renovation was designed for a family of four, who requested a space with the maximum amount of sunlight and floor space possible. Here is the view from the stairs leading up to the main living area.

The interior has all been painted white to aid in the reflection of light, with the lofted ceiling adding to the feeling of space.

Central to the design, is the tower (where all of the plumbing is located), which houses the kitchen, a play space, and bathroom (on a lower level).

The kitchen has been sunken down to separate it from the main living area.

And above the kitchen is a small play space for the children.
