The project description

Drawing from his work in the city, Charles completed his own labour of love in the Georgian Bay region of Ontario’s cottage country, designing a modern cottage for his family that veers away from the traditional wooden shacks commonly found in the region.

A long, horizontal structure that fits into the landscape, Charles’ cottage celebrates the simple use of a post and beam structural frame, incorporates an abundance of glass and pushes the envelope in terms of modern design.

Using few materials, Ganes’ beautifully designed cottage can be described as light-filled, linear and flat-roofed. From inside, the spacious, high-ceilinged structure gives the sense of a downtown city loft.
