Neutra Collection by Vincent Van Duysen

March 8, 2009

Belgian architect Vincent Van Duysen has designed the Neutra collection for Tribù, a Belgian outdoor furniture manufacturer.

From Tribù:

The new Neutra collection is taut and sober in inspiration and thus fits in neatly with the timeless tradition of Tribù. The collection in basic colours white and black includes an armchair, easy chair, footrest, lounger and two accessory tables. Neutra is ‘100% made in Belgium’ and perfectly reflects the design vision shared by Vincent Van Duysen and Tribù: unobtrusive elegance and well-considered detail for discreet luxury. Sober elegance finds expression in clean, simple forms and flowing lines. A restrained style, but with a keen sense of detail. The frame of the chairs, for instance, has a triangular profile that creates the illusion of extra-fine lines, and the armrests on the chairs and lounger sport an inlay of weatherproof black artificial leather.

Choice of innovative materials

Materials that go beyond the commonplace have always fascinated Tribù. For this new Neutra collection too, Tribù goes unflinchingly for surprising, hard-wearing materials: a frame in painted aluminium, injected under high pressure, and a seat in Batyline or bent beech wood, treated by the patented Belmadur® process. This process represents a revolutionary technology, developed by BASF, to enhance the quality of european wood, thus making it an obvious alternative to tropical hardwood. Result: extra-strong furniture that is also ultralight and thus easy to rearrange.

Even the Neutra tabletops are anything but standard. You can choose from matt glass, white or black, or very exclusive Zimbabwe Black granite. The glass tops are made of thermally tempered glass, with a ceramic layer burnt on to the glass surface at high temperature. Result: an extremely durable and colour-fast coating giving the top extreme protection not only against scratches, but also against extreme weather conditions.

Vincent Van Duysen: “Working with Tribù was especially constructive. The unique technological know-how is a welcome value-added in the development of the collection. Thanks to the special aluminium injection technique, for example, the frame is completely seamless, which can only strengthen the flowing lines of the design.”
