This Sculptural Pendant Light Was Inspired By Microscopic Ocean Diatoms

Inspired by the microscopic organisms living in our oceans, New Zealand-based designer David Trubridge has created Navicula - a modern and sculptural light fixture made from CNC cut bamboo plywood.

 

Inspired by the microscopic organisms living in our oceans, New Zealand-based designer David Trubridge has created Navicula, a light fixture made from CNC cut bamboo plywood.

The curved pieces of cut wood and the way they’ve been arranged on the fixture give Navicula a skin or shell-like appearance similar to that of the ocean diatoms that inspired the design of the light.

These curves are also responsible for changing the look of the light fixture depending on where you look at it from and give the light the look that it’s moving or undulating through the water.
