A Hilltop Home Where Architecture Follows the Sun

Set in Turkey, The Pearl by BAD – Basak Akkoyunlu Design introduces a modern coastal home shaped by its elevated position just 150 meters from the sea. The house unfolds across three levels, combining a basement, a garden-connected ground floor, and an upper level designed for open views and comfort.

Architecture That Follows the Sun

One of the most distinctive elements of The Pearl is its flowing eave design, inspired by the movement of sea waves. Wrapping around the structure, these overhangs are carefully designed based on the sun’s direction, creating shaded seating areas that shift throughout the day.

This form is echoed across the architecture, extending into the building mass and even the outdoor hardscape. Around the pool, it continues as a sculptural cover for the dining and kitchen area, tying the entire outdoor experience together.

A Layout Built Around the View

The design places the view at the forefront. Main living spaces are oriented outward toward Dalyan, while service areas are positioned on the land-facing side to maintain uninterrupted sightlines.

This approach ensures that whether inside or outside, the surrounding landscape is always visible, becoming a constant backdrop to the home’s interior spaces.

Living With the Pool and Garden

The connection between interior and exterior spaces defines the experience of the home. Movement between the living room, terrace, and pool is uninterrupted, encouraging constant interaction with the outdoor areas.

Entering Through the Landscape

Access to the home responds directly to the site’s topography. Vehicles enter through the upper basement level into a four-car garage, while a secondary approach leads directly to the garden level.

From the garage, the arrival experience continues through a sunken garden filled with lemon and palm trees. This pathway leads into a spacious vestibule and elevator lobby, creating a gradual transition from exterior to interior.

Indoor-Outdoor Living at the Center

The ground floor acts as the social heart of the home. A spacious pool and terrace anchor the layout, seamlessly connecting indoor and outdoor areas.

The living room opens directly to the garden, while the kitchen and dining areas extend toward the poolside. A guest room is also positioned on this level, offering both accessibility and privacy.

Natural elements soften the architecture, bringing greenery into close proximity with everyday living spaces.

A Basement Designed for More Than Function

The basement level goes beyond utility. Alongside the garage, it includes a large multipurpose living area that opens directly to the garden, extending the usable space outdoors.

This level also houses a wine and cigar room, a relaxation room with a sauna, a staff room, and a laundry area. Each function is organized around the central entrance and living space, making the layout both efficient and easy to navigate.

Upper-Level Views and Private Spaces

The first floor continues the focus on openness and scenery. A primary bedroom includes a private balcony with panoramic views, while two additional bedrooms share a large terrace. The eave design carries through to this level, working alongside the landscape elements to frame wide, uninterrupted views of the surroundings. Each room is positioned to take full advantage of the home’s elevated location.

When the House Lights Up After Sunset

As daylight fades, The Pearl takes on a completely different presence. Soft illumination around the pool and terrace reflects off the water, adding depth and movement to the outdoor spaces.

Inside, warm lighting spills through large openings, turning the home into a glowing volume on the hillside. The connection between interior and exterior remains clear, with light guiding the eye from living spaces out toward the garden and beyond.

From its elevated position to the way each level opens outward, The Pearl brings together structure, landscape, and everyday use in a clear and cohesive way. The wave-inspired eaves, layered layout, and consistent focus on views shape a home that feels open, functional, and visually striking from every angle.
