Brooklyn-based artist and interior designer Leigh Iglehart of Iglehart Design has transformed the lower level of a suburban home into an unforgettable entertaining destination. Designed for a family of distillers, the project takes inspiration from the romance of a private whiskey lounge, blending vintage influences, luxurious materials, and rich layers of texture into a space that feels both welcoming and dramatic.

A Home Bar Inspired by Craft Spirits

The family’s passion for craft spirits became the starting point for the entire design. Moody sage-green cabinetry fitted with unlacquered brass hardware forms the backdrop for a striking full bar, while a honed South African marble countertop introduces natural beauty with subtle movement. Together, these materials create an inviting place where the family’s bourbon collection takes center stage.

Rich Materials Create a Distinctive Atmosphere

One of the room’s standout features is the dramatic wood veneer wall covering, bringing warmth and character reminiscent of classic speakeasies. Brass-framed glass shelving displays bottles like treasured works of art, while mushroom-shaped alabaster table lamps line the bar, filling the room with a soft amber glow that reflects beautifully across the metallic finishes.

Vintage Inspiration Meets Contemporary Comfort

Above a round bronze table hangs a sculptural brass chain chandelier with glowing ovoid pendants that immediately draws the eye upward. Low amber velvet armchairs imported from Portugal reference 1970s Italian design, creating an inviting place for conversation. Floor-to-ceiling charcoal velvet drapes complete the scene, giving the entertaining space the exclusive feel of a private members’ lounge.

Warm Finishing Touches Complete the Space

Herringbone wood flooring introduces timeless craftsmanship beneath the room’s more glamorous finishes. Organic-shaped mirrors bounce warm light throughout the interior, while burnished gold bar stools surround the marble island, adding another layer of texture and shine. Every element contributes to a cohesive design that celebrates both collecting and entertaining.

Although tucked beneath a suburban home, this lower-level transformation feels like stepping into an exclusive whiskey lounge designed for memorable evenings. By combining luxurious finishes, vintage references, and a passion for craft spirits, Leigh Iglehart has created an entertaining space where every gathering feels a little more special.
