Set on an elevated site within The Reserve at Gibbston Valley Resort in New Zealand, this residence brings together bold architecture, refined interiors, and uninterrupted views of the Crown Range. Designed by Condon Scott Architects with interiors by Space Studio, the home captures both prestige and intimacy, rooted in the rugged character of its landscape.
From the first glance, it promises more than just a place to live: it frames the mountains, reflects the valley’s heritage, and creates space for both connection and quiet moments.

The home is defined by dual gable pavilions, linked by a glazed corridor that allows light to filter through while opening sightlines toward the mountains. Schist cladding anchors the house to its setting, echoing the region’s traditional gold-mining cottages. This choice of material gives the architecture a sense of permanence, aligning modern luxury with historic character.

A sheltered courtyard extends the design, fitted with operable louvres that transform the space for all seasons. The effect is both practical and atmospheric, blending shelter with openness.

Soaring gable ceilings and expansive glazing flood the living room with natural light. Every angle has been considered to maximize the connection between indoors and the alpine panorama. The openness feels balanced by the grounding effect of the stone walls, giving the room both drama and warmth.

Positioned to flow seamlessly from the living space, the dining area and kitchen offer flexibility for entertaining. The interiors by Space Studio bring a refined softness to the bold architecture, layering warmth through material choices and finishes. This balance ensures the communal heart of the home feels inviting, yet distinctly elevated.

At Gibbston Valley Resort, wine is more than context, it is culture. The residence honors this with a dedicated glass-enclosed wine cellar, creating a space to both showcase and savor the valley’s renowned vintages. It is an architectural gesture that connects lifestyle with place.

Beyond its formal spaces, the home offers a wood-lined media room designed for comfort and focus. It provides an intimate counterpoint to the openness of the main living zones, giving residents a private space to unwind.

The bathroom continues the theme of understated refinement, where function and atmosphere meet. Every element, from the large format tiles and the floating vanity, to the freestanding bathtub, are designed to create a calming experience that feels aligned with the wider architectural story.

This residence is an expression of Gibbston Valley itself. By anchoring luxury in stone, glass, and light, and by framing the ever-changing alpine landscape, the home becomes a lasting statement within one of Central Otago’s most remarkable settings.
