This Miami Home Lifts Daily Life Above the Garden

Two interlocking volumes define this Coconut Grove home, with wood panels, overhanging plants, and louvers creating warmth, shade, and a subtle connection to the surrounding greenery.

In a leafy Miami suburb, STRANG reworks how a family home meets its site. The design places communal rooms on an elevated level while reserving the ground floor for private use. Two interlocking rectangular forms guide this arrangement, allowing the house to respond to climate, light, and an elongated suburban plot. The result is a clear structure shaped by materials, shade, and outdoor connection.

The house is organized as two rectangular volumes that interlock along the length of the site. This move defines how the home is used and how it sits within its surroundings.

The entry stair feels simple and striking, with pale stone walls and wide concrete steps leading upward. Soft daylight filters through a skylit slot, while tropical greenery along the side adds a natural touch. A slim black handrail and tall wood door complete the minimal, welcoming approach.

The slatted wood ceiling adds depth overhead, while the oversized artwork brings just enough color to soften the minimal palette.
