When British designers Dominic Ash and Jeremy Fitter joined forces to form Podmakers, their goal was simple, to create a small space that felt both beautifully crafted and deeply functional. The result is the Escape Pod, a shingle-clad wooden hideaway that looks more like a piece of sculpture than a garden structure.
Clad in cedar shingles and crafted with birch plywood and European oak, the pod’s distinctive ellipsoid shape instantly sets it apart from any traditional outdoor room. It’s designed as a luxury space to work, meditate, socialise, or simply escape for a while.
Every piece of the Escape Pod is made using CNC techniques, ensuring absolute precision in its curved wooden form. The combination of materials gives it both strength and warmth, birch plywood forms the structure, cedar wraps it in texture, and oak details add timeless character to the stairs and window sills.
Inside, every detail is customizable. You can choose the window placement, interior layout, and finishings, with options for heating, electrics, and insulation. Whether used as a garden office, a snug, or a studio, the pod can evolve to suit different lifestyles.
In one layout, named ‘Garden Room’, a circular bench and coffee table fill the space, comfortably seating eight. It’s a warm, social hub, perfect for weekend gatherings or family evenings under soft lighting. With upholstered seating and built-in heating, it’s a cozy and inviting space all year round.
