When we feature projects, we always see the beautiful end result, but every so often we come across something that gives us insight into how something is made.

Meet Alexandre Kehayoglou, an artist and designer from Buenos Aires that creates nature-inspired rugs and carpets. Here she is designing a custom carpet for Belgian fashion designer Dries Van Noten, for one of his fashion shows.

Let’s have a quick look at how it all comes together…

Step 1 – Designing The Carpet

It all starts out with hand-drawing and coloring the custom carpet.

2. Drawing On The Canvas

Once the design has been finalised, it then needs to be transferred onto the canvas.

3. Knitting

Now skilled workers apply the wool threads to the pattern that was drawn onto the canvas.

4. Removing The Carpet

After the carpet has been fully knitted, it then needs to be removed. Keep in mind this carpet is HUGE, measuring in at 1550 square feet.

5. Applying The Latex

The carpet now needs a coat of latex to keep all of the threads in place, and make it easier to install.

6. Rolling and Packing

To be able to transport it, the carpet had to be cut into 16 pieces and then assembled onsite.

And here it is installed onsite as a fashion show runway carpet.
