When the Austrian architecture firm AllesWirdGut, redesigned the grounds of a former steel mill in Luxembourg into a city square, they included this concrete tunnel of seating that is lined with wood.
With the 2014 World Design Capital coming to a close, SAOTA Architects, Antoni Associates and OKHA Interiors and Design weren’t ready to say goodbye just yet, so they wrapped their building in bold yellow graphics, including an overlaid map of Cape Town, South Africa and the saying “Under This African Sun”.
When ID:SR designed the BBC North office in Salford, England, they included an increasingly popular office interior element, semi-private booths. These meeting pods effectively make use of the dead spaces often found at the edges of the office floor, as well as providing spaces for intimate collaboration opportunities among co-workers.
Toronto-based Storyboard Furniture have designed the Plane Cloud, a pendant light inspired by the shaving curls made from a woodworkers well tuned plane.
Possibly the most unusual combination of home furnishings, can be found in the bedroom of an apartment in Luxembourg, designed by Metaform Architects. In this bedroom, there is a bed attached to a bathtub and two sinks. In case that is not surprising enough, there also appears to be a toilet and shower in full view, contained within a glass enclosure next to the previously mentioned bed/bath/sink combo.
Designer Ineke Hans has created the Drawer Table, which features hidden storage, for manufacturer Arco.
