In São Paulo, Brazil, Angá Arquitetura has transformed an apartment for a young family by reshaping the original layout and introducing design solutions that make the home feel more open, welcoming, and practical. Named Zoé, a word derived from Greek meaning “life,” the project was designed around the future residents’ wishes, creating spaces that support family gatherings, work, relaxation, and everyday comfort.
To better suit the family’s lifestyle, the apartment’s floor plan was modified to increase integration between rooms and create a stronger sense of spaciousness.

The Feature Wall That Hides an Entire Workspace and Kitchen
The apartment’s most striking design element is a white wall that stretches from the living room into the dining area. At first glance, it appears to be a sculptural architectural feature thanks to its vertical channel detailing. However, this wall serves a much bigger purpose than aesthetics alone.

At one end, sliding pocket doors disappear neatly into the wall. Once opened, they reveal two important spaces hidden behind the surface, a home office and the kitchen. The design creates flexibility, allowing the family to close off work and utility areas when desired while maintaining a clean, uncluttered appearance throughout the social spaces.

A Home Office Designed Around Custom Storage
Behind the concealed wall sits a dedicated home office designed to make working from home both comfortable and efficient. A custom-built desk runs along one side of the room, creating a generous workspace. The desk seamlessly connects to built-in shelving and storage drawers, providing plenty of room for books, office supplies, and personal items.
The space benefits from the project’s broader layout changes, including the relocation of the laundry area, which helped create a more pleasant work environment while improving access to views and natural light elsewhere in the apartment. A second pocket door links the office directly to the kitchen, allowing movement between spaces without disrupting the apartment’s overall flow.

A Larger Kitchen Made for Everyday Use and Entertaining
One of the most significant updates involved expanding the kitchen to better support the family’s lifestyle. The result is a bright and functional space where minimalist wood cabinetry introduces warmth while white countertops and upper cabinets keep the room feeling light and airy. A soft green backsplash adds color without overwhelming the neutral palette.
The kitchen’s larger footprint makes food preparation and entertaining easier, supporting the homeowners’ love of gathering with family and friends. Another sliding pocket door connects the kitchen to the laundry room, while a hidden entrance from the living room provides an additional access point.

Color Creates Personality From the Moment You Enter
The apartment’s neutral foundation is complemented by strategic bursts of color that bring individuality to the interiors. The entryway immediately makes an impression with matte green finishes that create a welcoming first impression. Nearby, a powder room embraces a much bolder approach with terracotta-colored walls that introduce warmth and visual energy.
These colorful moments reflect the designers’ strategy of keeping larger surfaces light and practical while allowing furnishings and details to inject character throughout the home.

Open Living Spaces Filled With Light and City Views
The living room showcases the apartment’s balance between functionality and visual interest. Two custom wood features help define the space. One houses a piano alongside open shelving, turning storage into a display element. The second forms a backdrop for the television and incorporates a floating shelf below.

The living room flows directly into the dining area and a secondary lounge space, reinforcing the open-plan layout created during the renovation.
Large windows flood these shared spaces with natural light while providing uninterrupted views across the city. The combination of openness, sunlight, and carefully selected materials gives the apartment a bright and welcoming atmosphere.

A Warm and Functional Primary Suite
A hallway leads from the public areas of the apartment to the more private family spaces.

In the primary bedroom, a wood headboard stretches across the entire width of the room, creating a strong visual anchor. Built-in cabinetry incorporates drawers and open shelving, helping maximize storage without introducing bulky furniture.

A Bathroom With a Refreshing Splash of Color
The en-suite bathroom introduces another carefully selected color accent. Light turquoise tiles line the shower, bringing freshness and brightness to the room. These cool tones contrast beautifully with the wood vanity and shelving, which add texture and warmth.

A Soft and Playful Nursery
The nursery introduces one of the apartment’s gentlest color combinations. A light green accent wall provides a cheerful backdrop, while a pale pink crib adds softness and contrast. The palette feels playful without becoming overwhelming, creating a room suited to both comfort and growth.

The Floor Plan Reveals the Apartment’s Smartest Move
By concealing functional spaces behind sliding doors, the design of this apartment maintains clean sightlines throughout while preserving easy access to essential rooms.

Through strategic layout changes, concealed doors, expanded social spaces, and a balanced use of color and materials, Angá Arquitetura has created a São Paulo apartment that feels both practical and inviting. From the hidden home office and enlarged kitchen to the light-filled living areas and family-focused private spaces, every part of the home works together to support modern living while maintaining a clean and cohesive aesthetic.
