Architect and designer Francesca Perani has created a micro-apartment in Bergamo, Italy, that features a wavy metal screened facade.

Designed as an ‘Urban Cabin’, the small apartment is a complete restoration of an open porch, which was once used as a storage area, however it’s the arched screens that are the first thing people see.

The perforated metal screens contrast the “earth” color of the building, and are a reference to ancient Persian arches. By being installed a short distance away from the building, they act as a shade and privacy screen.

At night, the screens are lit up and showcased by the outdoor lighting, as well as the lighting that glows from within the apartment.

Here’s a closer look at the perforated screen that shows the identical circular cut-outs.
